EVENTS: A LUCRATIVE OPTION Published In : Education Times (Times of India)

| In
the age of publicity and promotion,
organising and managing events
have become a quintessential part.
But there are not many institutes
which produce qualified professionals
who are into event management.
In the absence of good institutes,
even events which can take a grand
look fail to do so. However, there
is one institute which is holding
the forte – National academy
of Event management and development
(NAEMD). Coincidentally, this
is the first institute in Asia
to offer Event Management as a
study. |

Running
as many as 11 centres across the country
in Ahmedabad, Baroda, Indore, Jaipur,
Mumbai, Nagpur, Pune, Patna NAEMD has
already churned out many event managers
who have been associated with mega events
like Ad Asia, Femina, IMPPA Awards,
Gladrags, Zee Cine Awards, Alpha Awards,
Sansui Awards and other prestigious
ceremonies which have created ripples
in the entertainment world. Pravin Joshi,
Centre Manager, informed that NIEM is
the member of International Special
Event Society (ISES), International
Festival & Events Association (IFEA),
Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce
& Industry (FICCI), Regency Institute
of TAFE (Australia), Event Management
Association of India (EMAI), Confederation
of Indian Industries (CII), Indian Association
of Amusement Parks and Industries (IAAPI)
and Ad Club of Mumbai.
"The
association has been beneficial to us
as our students get placement easily
and the kind of patronage these organisations
give, directly or indirectly, boosts
the morale of our students," he
says. The training methodology at NAEMD
is based on three pronged system which
is considered to be very effective in
professional courses. Apart from regular
class room sessions which include regular
lecture, assignments and projects, knowledge
workshops, simulated events, the institute
organises guest lectures, case studies,
practical training and in house events
to give a hands on experience to its
students. Col Rathore, a student at
the NAEMD Jaipur-centre, feels that
the. Course is comprehensive and gives
an insight into the profession. While
Parul Saraogi says that a job in event
management is undoubtedly the hottest
one. "I came across various aspects
of event management at NAEMD which I
was not knowing. Now I am confident
that I can take a plunge in this field,"
she says.
Joshi further informs that the institute
conducts two courses. Diploma in Event
Management (DEM) and Post Graduate Diploma
In Event Management (PGDEM). "For
DEM, the eligibility is XII and students
can pursue this course along with graduation.
While for PGDEM, the eligibility is
Graduation. Selection is based strictly
on the performance of interview,"
he said. The institute provides air
conditioned classes with modern equipments.
They are also been provided with library
facilities and readymade notes are made
available to them.
An active placement cell is there to
arrange placement, training and offer
guidance to the students. Experts from
various fields are invited to deliver
lectures in their respective fields.
